Standlake 14th August 2005 under 2litre              Report By Bill

Numbers tend to drop during the school summer holiday so today’s 43 was a respectable number indeed. Car wise it was one apiece for Volvo estate and Capri, whilst Granadas reached five including used mk1 saloon and mk2 limo for 104 Lee Gumm and 2 Jon Bricknell respectively. 852 Jay impressed with an early Hunter estate whilst 564 Mr Splat wielded a smart manual Laurel which was surpassed by 323 Tufty’s solid and extremely rare 1959 Mercedes 190.

Heat 1 - 70 Steven Hart (Corolla) got action underway hooking 167 Westy’s Sapphire out early in the opener whilst 873 Simon Wincote’s estate version found the wall though I failed to spot his attacker. 588 Pete Kerry biffed the Merc which then came under further fire with a head-on from 606 Boomer and one up the chuff from the Hunter. 578 Bert (Mazda 626) removed both 253 Bungee in the Volvo and 7 Donut’s Colt as 815 Ian Castle shed a wheel and shaft. 573 Beanie (Rover 416) then decimated 589 Dean Plowman’s Sunny estate bringing about an early stoppage to check on the latter. The rain decided to make an appearance during the stoppage making for a greasy surface for the résumé. Bungee was collected by the Laurel after spinning out, 155 Demo tried desperately to fence the German panzer but had to settle for spinning it out as Westy collected the empty Plowman machine. Hart removed 491 Neil Sparkes’ mk2 whereby Demo landed a shot on the latter; Tufty biffed Bert whilst Hart went on to deposit Westy in the armco. In a revenge move, Bert spun the Merc as the flying 126 Casey took an impressive win in the wet, lapping all but 2nd place, that being 252 Wild Willy (Astra estate), Boomer next in 3rd.

Result: 126 Dave Case, 252 Will Bignell, 606 Liam Weedon, 85 Aaron Rowland, 578 Bryan Tritton, 155 Craig Boyle

Heat 2 - The track was bone dry for the second and run at a much faster tempo. Demo was on the case hooking Boomer out whilst 341 Dan Wilder got in a tangle with Mr Splat. 85 Tricky buried 482 Spiro and then met Wilder on the nose as 177 Matt Whitehead jacked Westy. 106 Paul Gumm (mk2) attacked 316 Big Ears’ Primera estate, who located Boomer, who in turn latched onto 118 Tony Woodcock, the latter then on the front end of a four car follow-in. 851 Bode in the Capri thundered the mk1 in, Spiro ran Bungee in, Donut spun Kerry with Hart then connecting head-on with the latter. Castle nipped past Casey to win a cracking little battle for 1st, 110 Yoyo Man finishing 3rd.

Result: 815 Ian Castle, 126 Dave Case, 110 Derek Tyler, 70 Steven Hart, 77 Steve Beasley, 7 Carl Boswell

Heat 3 - Jay began the last heat hooking 124 Timmy Aldridge out whereupon Casey landed a solid t-bone to the latter whilst Bode made a beeline for Paul Gumm, treating him to a hefty head-on. Bricknell biffed 575 Tritt’s Rover 216, making a mess of the rear wheels as Aldridge collected a second bone, this one from Donut with the reds coming out to check on the youngster. Fortunately he was ok and we were soon racing again, Casey on pole soon disappeared into the distance. 600 Jase (Gallant) blasted 521 Elvis Laing’s Sierra estate aside to go 2nd whilst 185 Martin Yaxley dumped 77 Bass’ smart mk2 on a tyre. Kerry as many had before, tried to bury the Mercedes but Tufty was having none of it, Spiro arriving to dispose of Kerry before coming under fire from welcome returnee 35 Bug. Bert followed Jase in ending his day as Casey put Bug away en route to his second victory, reversing the previous heat’s placing with Castle, 576 Simon Hadland completing a Bluebird clean sweep.

Result: 126 Dave Case, 815 Ian Castle, 576 Simon Hadland, 110 Derek Tyler, 35 Rob Jopling, 185 Martin Yaxley

Final - Bungee commenced proceedings in the final removing the limo before careering head-on with a spun Tricky whilst Woodcock leaned Hart in before connecting with Castle whereupon he was jacked down by 30 Matt Cadle’s Primera. Tricky then arrived to blow Woodcock up with Bungee jacking Tricky before Bricknell completed the move by firing up the Volvo. Aldridge meanwhile (in the #7 Colt) roared off pole for a fine wine, dumping Cadle on the infield along the way, Dippy Dave (in the 316 Primera estate) next with Tritt a very creditable 3rd having worked wonders in the pits to de-mangle the Rover’s hind quarters.

7 Timmy Aldridge, 316 Dave Tustian, 575 Paul Tritton, 126 Dave Case, 110 Derek Tyler, 77 Steve Beasley

Race 5 - An eight lap dash into DD rounded the day, Tritt punting newcomer 293 James Costello’s Cavalier aside to set the pace whilst Bug set about anyone in his path, Bricknell and Bungee to name but two. Dippy Dave won the event (now in the 151 Rover rod), Yoyo Man next both of whom overhauling Tritt. The DD action commenced with Bug running Wincote in, 35 starting to snap with the reds quickly out as Wincote’s crash helmet had parted company with his head! Jay met Tufty in a slow head-on encounter on the centre on the restart whilst Tritt very much the aggressor set about Bug before turning attentions to the German panzer tank. Pom (now the third driver of the #7 Colt) then landed a brave if ineffective blow on the rear of the Merc as Tritt nailed Castle (the third pilot of the 316 Primera) before Bug met Tritt in a storming head-on. Bug then waved Bungee in who in turn copped a biggie off Bode (who was arguably having his best day’s racing though my report probably doesn’t do justice). Pom then completed the train by elevating the Capri and left just these two who shared the spoils after one final head-on.

Result: 151 Dave Tustian, 110 Derek Tyler, 575 Paul Tritton, 815 Ian Castle, 851 Mark Howell, 35 Rob Jopling

DD: 7 Nathan Grant = 851 Mark Howell
