8th August 2004 Under 2000cc
The
schools have broken up, a busy weekend on the racing calendar & we still
raised a turnout of 37 bangers for an under 2Litre session. Five drivers took
the opportunity to race a Granada, similarly Capris whilst big Volvos totalled
three.
The
opening pair of heats saw split grids & were somewhat quiet. 606 Boomer
heaved 66 Barry Tweddle’s Volvo 440 in with an assist from 815 Ian Castle’s
tonka’d Bluey in heat one whilst 2 Jon B (Cavalier) spun 981 Matt Roston’s
tender Capri. 98 Baldrick (Alfa 33) wound 54 Winnies Saab out as Roston,
recovering from a spin, caught the flying 273 Erny (Volvo 960) head-on, which
killed the former whilst the 9 series continued without losing any time. The
leading 417 Shelly (Cavvy) was removed by 133 Karly as 584 Sharky spun Castle
into 275 Ozzie’s Cavalier, causing the latter to flip & slide
spectacularly on his roof! Praise to Jon B & Shelly for shielding the
upturned Ozzie though sadly Baldrick was unable to avoid the 275 motor, though
fortunately with the passenger side. Naturally the race was stopped, Ozzie
emerging none the worse for his ordeal & the result declared in favour of
Castle with Shelly & 576 Simon Hadland his placemen.
Result:
815 Ian Castle, 417 Sheldon Gardiner, 576 Simon Hadland, 606 Liam Weedon, 575
Paul Tritton, 273 Stuart Emery
Heat
two saw 600 Jason Emery (Capri) pick up & follow-in 712 Judy’s slow Saab,
290 Andy George (Cavalier) also connecting with the fence, 578 Bert (Mk2 Cavvy)
his assailant. Boomer was setting the pace with 817 Rich Hands (Mk2) & Jon B
next but the latter two missed out on the places when 2 messed with 817 on the
last lap & neither managed to finish. Boomer romped home for the win, Bert
& YoYo Man inheriting the minor placings.
Result: 606 Liam Weedon, 578 Bryan
Tritton, 110 Yo-110 Yo-Yo, 54 Winnie, 801 Stephen Holland, 133 Karl Day
The
third was all-in & better though not for 75 Skunk who’s spun Sierra estate
was met on the nose by 851 Bode’s Volvo estate whilst YoYo Man spun 361 Bilge
Bros’ Capri, the latter cleverly holding his man. Boomer gave a quick blast to
a gimping 50 Roger Taylor (Cavalier) as 174 Nutty steamed Emery, Hadland quickly
on hand to flip 600 aside whilst Nutty went on to remove Hands. Bert arrived
& spun Nutty as Karly saw the race out with a shot on 219 Wayno’s Capri.
The result was a Devil’s delight as Bert led fellow advocates 575 Tritt &
Hadland across the line for a clean sweep.
Result: 578 Bryan Tritton, 575 Paul
Tritton, 576 Simon Hadland, 273 Stuart Emery, 801 Stephen Holland, 606 Liam
Weedon
The
last heat was the best race of the day. YoYo Man was well up for it, thundering
801 Haribo’s late Accord in, 364 Flumpy (Mk2) doing likewise to Wayno before
Bilge Bros arrived with a ferocious t-bone to the latter. Flumpy then reversed
his assailant’s dead Capri towards the advancing pack whilst elsewhere 852 Jay
in the remaining Vole launched himself at 177 Matt Whitehead’s Mk2. Castle
hitched a ride under Bode’s estate when an 815 bonnet bolt caught on the
underside of the former Tadley man’s car before Castle freed himself &
turned attentions to brother Jay, a bad move this as he mistimed his attack
& found the wall ( a really bad move as 815 was in the lead at the time).
Tritt (who was lively all day) hooked Emery out & found his man again,
running him in on the second occasion. Meanwhile Hands crashed with 36 Mark
Bennett’s Astra which set the former up for a cracking steam from Jon B. Tritt
was still on the offensive, attacking Karly though the latter replied by dumping
his man firmly on the infield as Boomer crossed the line for the win & just
in time too as Nutty removed him before the next bend, locals Erny & Winnie
filling the other podium places.
Result: 606 Liam Weedon, 273 Stuart
Emery, 54 Winnie, 575 Paul Tritton, 578 Bryan Tritton, 576 Simon Hadland
YoYo
Man was involved in the action in the final, spinning & copping a mild biff
from 155 Demolition’s Capri whlist Jon B heaved Shelly aside. Demolition
arrived to steam Shelly, the latter hitting the brakes inviting anyone a free
hit on his parasite – but no-one obliged! Jon B put Tritt in as Jay buried
Flumpy, 364 snapping impressively on impact with Whitehead on hand to blast Jay.
Nutty hurled Hands on the infield as Demolition superbly picked up &
followed Wayno in with YoYo Man landing a decent shot on Demolition, Emery in
turn blasting YoYo Man. The latter recovered only to be wound out by 993 Dazza
(Mk2), Hadland doing likewise to Bennett as Erny powered his rapid Vole to a
fine win ahead of Bert & the aforementioned Dazza.
Result: 273 Stuart Emery, 578 Bryan
Tritton, 993 Darren Foss, 491 Neil Sparks, 133 Karl Day, 2 Jon Bricknell
A
double-figured entry for the demo began with Nutty launching himself at Emery
who held his man but nobody wanted the free shot on offer whilst Bennett had his
diminutive Astra twisted by persons unseen. To confuse things the Howell
brothers had swapped cars & Bode ran Emery in whilst Demolition executed a
heavy steam on Nutty, the latter then finished off by an awesome length of the
straight blitzing by Karly which was worthy of the prize money alone. It
wasn’t to be however as the move stopped his car & it was left to the
Howell boys to finish off Hands before turning on each other, Jay getting the
nod over Bode.
