Standlake
29th June 2003 Havoc Magazine sponsored 1400cc
The third running of this event raised 59 cars including quite a bit of ‘70s bilge. 303 Dangerous Brian campaigned that all time classic – an Allegro whilst 102 Mr Marina himself produced a coupe. Completing the British Leyland line up, 77 Bass had a Dolomite whilst the Chevette showed well with three examples. On the jap front, 426 Slap returned a RWD Sunny, 33 Paul Norgrove campaigned a fresh Corolla estate whilst rooky 37 Luke Andrews had arguably the rarest car on the day in the guise of a 120Y. 275 Ozzie had a Beetle which was beautifully adorned in full Herbie livery leaving 530 Mr Ass with the oldest car on display, a mk2 Cortina. Visitors today heralded from Peterborough, Incarace and Fleet.
Heat
1 (25 cars)
- 202 Matt West (Rover 213) was racing for charity, but 600 Jason Emery (Proton)
showed no charity when he put him in early in the opener, West then losing his
bonnet when 133 Karly (Capri) gave him a further shot before 316 Big Ears (Astra)
engaged him head on. Emery meanwhile put 19 Stoker’s Golf away only to cop a
blast from 101 Lee Watson’s Astra estate, 111 Steve Pritchett (Fiesta) then
winding Emery out as 410 Muppet (Maestro) took the first win of the day ahead of
regulars 112 Rusty (Pony) and 537 Mitch (Sunny).
Result:
410 Matthew Tyler, 112 Shaun Russell, 537 Mark Mitchell, 2 Jonathan Bricknell,
301 Darren Goves, 54 Alan Cartwright
Heat
2 (30 cars)
- The second heat was extremely lively. The keen Emery steamed 817 Richard Hands
(Favourit) whilst another Jackpot, 815 Ian Castle (Acclaim) attacked Real Steel
drivers 32 Pacman (Capri) and 479 Fusspot (Mk5) with 2 Jon Bricknell (Volvo 343)
ploughing up the latter. 54 Winnie (Astramax van) then spun Pacman allowing
Dangerous Brian a free blast to the 32 Capri which not surprisingly crumpled the
All-aggro somewhat. Further punishment then befell the Incarace man when Mitch
fired up him and, keeping pedal firmly to the metal launched him into 77 Colin
Davey’s Charade. Ozzie’s Beetle got the turnaround treatment from 799 Phil
Cullen (Chevette) and then copped one on the nose from 151 Chris Baker’s
Fiesta giving the VW something of a classic A60 front end look. Emery then
joined with 434 Chris Hill (Astra) for a joint assault on Pacman as Castle and
575 Paul Triton (Cherry) both put the bumper in on 712 Judy’s Astra, 575 then
humping Dangerous Brian as Mitch fenced 622 Ifor’s Metro. Hill picked up and
spun 197 Peter Dodge (mk5 estate), 198 Pete Boy (mk2 Escort) charging in for a
revenge blast only to miss his man, connecting with Dodge. Hill then aimed for
Dangerous Brian only to cop a shot off Pacman at which point the All-aggro
collapsed. Rusty improved to 1st ahead of Devils 576 Simon Hadland
(mk4 Escort) and 578 Bert (Sunny). 55 Dem (Chevette) latched onto Dodge on the
rundown for an attempted follow in, 39 Nev Coleman (Horizon) teaming up with him
for a mild t-bone on the 197 estate.
Result:
112 Rusty, 576 Simon Hadland, 578 Bryan Tritton, 815 Ian Castle, 54 Winnie, 712
Judy Walman
Heat
3 (25 cars)
- An explosive start in the third saw Bert wind Winnie out in revenge for 54’s
attack on the other Tritton, Paul. All hell let loose then as 39 Nev Coleman
(Horizon) steamed Tritton whilst 14 Baby Face (Lada estate) attacked 133
Karly’s Capri. Dem launched 170 Darren Teal (Capri) into the melee with Mr
Fudge steaming Winnie as Slap rolled bringing the reds out as he was floor pan
up to the advancing traffic. Karly steamed Fudge early on the restart as
Bricknell spun 110 YoYo’s Vole, the latter then copping a big one on the nose
from Castle. 19 Stoker (Golf) spun Bert whereupon Karly delivered a massive
t-bone to the Devil as 19 Dave Spiers (Skoda Favourit) took a suicide lunge at
71 Mr Tea’s impressive mk2 Escort estate only to taste the Armco. All the
while Bricknell was holding an impressive lead until Castle wound him out who
himself lost ground when Goves spun Fudge into his path, Goves then leaning Mr
Tea in which ripped the bonnet off the Escort as in a thrilling finish welcome
visitor 378 Aiden Parker (Pantry) took the win, chased over the line by a
recovered Castle with Emery a fine 3rd.
Result:
378 Aidan Parker, 815 Castle, 600 Jason Emery, 301 Govesy, 77 Steve Beasley, 2
Bricknell
Heat
4 (20 cars)
- saw Mr Ass’ debut. He was instantly removed by West and then steamed by
Cullen with Baker firing the Beetle into 799. Baker then received a biggie when
the impressive Karly launched Emery into him as Cullen clattered into 302 Billy
Kerry’s Pantry. Norgrove introduced Emery to the wall as Bricknell ran 248
Dave Stopps (Volvo 340) in with Kerry blasting the latter. Bricknell had Mr Ass
round, the latter just escaping Dodge’s intentions in time with 197 meeting
the unfortunate Stopps instead. Cullen then also met Stopps though 140 Derek
Ludlow (skirted Fiesta) got one back for team Fox with a shot on West whilst
Pete Boy buried Goves. This failed to stop the latter however as he shrugged it
off and promptly took the win ahead of Mitch and the impressive Bricknell.
Result:
301 Govesy, 537 Mitch, 2 Bricknell, 302 Billy Kerry, 197 Pete Dodge, 712 Judy
Walman
Heat
5 (34 cars)
- The last heat saw Ludlow cop a blast off 101 Lee Watson (Astra estate) who in
turn collected one from Fusspot. Ludlow then received further attention from
Norgrove whilst surprisingly 116 Coops (Sunny) hooked fellow Rooster Kerry out
with Dodge arriving to do likewise to 116. Castle spun Dodge into the path of
580 Dippy Dave (Belmont) who sadly hit the brakes as Cullen spun Bass whilst 665
Roy Grant (Chevette) fired up Parker. Winnie then had Pete Boy out with West
applying a bone to 198 though the latter replied later, jacking his assailant
when Coops latched onto him. Davey was well squashed by persons unseen as Castle
drove to a fine full contact win ahead of Goves and Rusty.
Result:
815 Castle, 301 Govesy, 112 Rusty, 54 Winnie, 537 Mitch, 110 Derek Tyler
Final
(30 cars)
- After a false start Hands got the final underway picking Dodge up who in turn
latched onto 50 Screwloose (Pujo 309), running them both in, sidelining
Andrews’ 120Y as 665 (now driven by Bunny) met Coleman head on. Dodge then
blasted Bunny as Screwloose gave Pete Boy the turn around whereby the latter was
unavoidably collected by 249 Mark Venvell’s Metro. West then zeroed in on
Venvell as Ifor fired up Pete Boy whilst Bricknell ran 816 Brian Hands (Vole
340) into Andrews, putting the passenger doors of the 120Y over the tunnel.
Castle arrived to give Bricknell the heave-ho and Richard Hands reversed Dodge
in. Coleman nibbled away at Mitch before the latter let the former pass and
promptly blew him up. Ifor turned YoYo round but the latter soon retaliated with
Muppet arriving on the scene with a shot on Ifor aswell. YoYo then went on steam
West whilst Castle spun Dodge whereupon Venvell jacked the 197 estate down.
Coops then picked Dodge up who instantly aimed at Venvell. Castle promptly fired
up Dodge who latched onto Slap, the latter leading the train straight for 816
Brian Hands. Rusty and Winnie took turns in spinning 111 Steve Pritchett’s
Fiesta though the former collected a flat in the process, allowing Goves and
Winnie past for 1st and 2nd, Rusty doing well to hang on
for 3rd as Slap, Dodge and Brian Hands saw the race out with a
private feud, Castle arriving to jack Slap.
Result:
301 Govesy, 54 Winnie, 112 Rusty, 426 Paul Horwood, 116 Richard Cooper, 110 YoYo
Demolition
Derby (23 cars)
- The DD was the bizz. Strangely it began with Mr Tea doing teammate 75 Lee
Jenkins’ mk4 Escort whilst Winnie copped one off Coops before Kerry steamed
heavily into the Astramax, putting a wheel firmly behind Winnie’s cage. Brian
Hands instantly fired up Coops but copped a large portion off Bunny as 582 Steve
Tustian (Maestro) ran Bricknell in with Dodge homing in on the latter before
giving the 77 Dolly (now driven by Darren Mabbitt) the bone. Kerry arrived to
administer a large one to Dodge and then went completely off the head issuing
Dodge a monster head on only to feel the force of Bunny and then a head on from
Cullen. Coops got one back for the Roosters, firing up Cullen as YoYo neatly put
West’s wheels up for him with Mabbitt shortening West’s motor a little more.
Slap now turned it round to meet Pacman before burying the Sunny inside Mitch as
Castle ran Mabbitt into the now vacant Bunny. YoYo spun and copped a head on off
Coops with Big Ears in turn firing up Coops only to feel the force of Castle.
YoYo now reversed to meet Mabbitt before Castle met the Dolly on the nose and
then a rear end shot to YoYo. Mabbitt then connected with Castle only to put a
wheel back allowing Castle to stop YoYo with a meaty head on and then follow
Pacman in to claim a well earned victory.
Result:
815 Ian Castle
