Standlake
20th November 2005 Alan Barton memorial under 1400cc
Report
By Bill
Two
weeks ago it was rain, today it was fog though not as bad as the HMC some
fifteen years ago; those who’d eaten carrots the night before could just about
make out the far bend most of the time! A whopping 52 car turnout including a
handful from Incarace, Mendips, Fleet & even one driver from Marshfield! The
ever keen 2 Jon Bricknell brought two cars, one of which being a Riva; marques
specialist 283 Webby similarly mounted though his was an estate. 628 Wisey
embarked on his banger career with an Allegro, 313 Mayhem produced a Marina
whilst 335 Sy Hughes & 153 Sparkey turned out a brace of Dolomites. 622 Ifor
wielded a mint HB Viva that sadly refused to run leaving 30 Matt Cadle to
complete the line up with a tidy A40.
Heat
1 - Roughly 25 cars contested each of the races, the opener commencing with
273 Erny’s Mazda 323 neatly biffing 573 Beanie’s Astra straight on into turn
one as Welshman 170 Jamie Richardson (Pujo 205) attacked Webby who sought &
dealt retribution before the lap was out! 440 Yard Tramp (Sunny) ripped a wheel
off, 110 Yo-Yo Man steamed 777 Luffy in a battle of the Sunnys as 37 Luke
Andrews (Fiesta) was caught by 791 Micky Rowlands junior & Richardson, 674
Duck (Lancer) also connecting with Andrews. Webby thumped the former as turn one
caught out the unwary, Rowlands just one victim fencing himself next time round.
Erny leaned the A40 into Andrews stricken steed en route to a fine win ahead of
returnee 442 Potty (Civic) & 126 Casey (Sunny).
Result:
273 Stuart Emery, 442 Stu Phillips, 126 Dave Case, 777 Trevor Luff, 575 Paul
Tritton, 578 Bryan Tritton
Heat
2 - 814 Mr B (Metro) found the first turn black ice in the second, 575 Tritt
(Corolla estate) used his head & 532 Vince Voysey’s mk5 Escort as a brake
to avoid a similar experience. 606 Boomer (Sunny) blasted Erny whilst Potty
steamed Bricknell’s Sunny. 225 Little Bear’s Volvo 340 jacked Voysey before
surviving an attempted Boomer follow in, Sparkey taking the brunt as Little Bear
bounced off his passenger doors. Bricknell blasted 241 Darren Dodd’s trademark
Golf & then ran him in, Potty doing likewise to 527 Stu Wise’ Escort, the
pair of them getting airtime in the process. Wisey arrived late with his shot on
Potty, missed & hit his dad instead & was then ran in & out of the
armco by Luffy though the Allegro emerged unscathed as Boomer thumped 712
Judy’s Golf. Tritt excelled in the conditions & motored to an impressive
win, 112 Rusty & 702 Jimbo next both Sunny mounted.
Result:
575 Paul Tritton, 112 Shaun Russell, 702 James Dodge, 656 Liam Findlay, 283
Bryan Webb, 814 Mark Barker
Heat
3 - 207 Compo’s booted Nova rocketed off the start-line in the third only
to discover turn one’s dark delights though he held it well, maintaining his
lead for several laps. The Trummys performed adjacent parking whilst Potty
decimated 921 Chips’ Fiesta. 578 Bert (Sunny) followed 718 Mark Ricketts’
booted Nova in as Hughes attacked Potty before coming under fire from Webby who
in turn was assaulted by 311 Carl Pitson’s Sunny. The latter then caught Rusty
leaving himself prone to Webby who nailed him superbly. Potty was at it again,
Richardson his victim on this occasion, Peter Dodge at the helm of his
brother’s mount ran 429 Daz’ Maestro van in, standing it on it’s nose,
Dodge viewing the sky before returning to earth & winding Boomer out though
this saw the end of his race. Luffy took this one from Beanie & 556 Chris
Vickers (Proton Persona).
Result:
777 Trevor Luff, 573 Chris Brooks, 556 Chris Vickers, 112 Shaun Russell, 576
Simon Hadland, 111 Andreas Schutz
Heat
4 - Sy took Judy in in the fourth, 576 Simon Hadland (Astra) doing likewise
to 177 Daniel Micon’s Golf whilst 167 Donut (Metro) buried 111 Posh Boy’s
Astra. 626 Fat Boy Fin (Astramax) & 252 Wild Willy piled into Voysey whilst
815 Ian Castle (Belmont) leaned Vickers cleverly into Yard Tramp’s vacant
Sunny. Potty was once again on the offensive, powering Dodd into Voysey &
then heaving both Castle & 777 Del Gibbons’ Sunny aside. Little Bear
steamed Fat Boy Fin as early pacesetter 580 Dippy Dave (Pujo 309) lost ground
after collecting a puncture letting Mr B in for the win, Judy & Donut next.
814
Mark Barker, 712 Judy Walman, 167 Carl Boswell, 442 Stu Phillips, 575 Paul
Tritton, 283 Bryan Webb
Heat
5 - Donut featured in the last heat, climbing all over Pitson as Dodd
removed Luffy whilst Mayhem kept it retro by attacking first Cadle & then
Wisey after the latter had given Fat Boy Fin a kamikaze run. Wild Willy gave Sy
a lift when he jacked him but was then run in by Boomer, Erny performing a
similar manoeuvre on Fat Boy Fin. Mr B followed the A40 in, Little Bear trashed
Gibbons only to feel the force of the Marina & Erny with Mayhem then landing
a second hit on the Volvo. 41 Danny Pullen (Fiesta) took Beanie in as Sparkey
blasted Compo only to come under fire from Gibbons as Wild Willy went on a Devil
hunt, missing Hadland, connecting with Tritt but failing to spot Boomer in his
mirror who put the Bucks hero down with a hefty t-bone, Potty too paying the
price of taking the Devils on single-handed. Casey took this one from Yo-Yo Man,
Boomer a splendid all-action 3rd.
Result:
126 Dave Case, 110 Derek Tyler, 606 Liam Weedon, 575 Paul Tritton, 573 Chris
Brooks, 313 Mick Cotton
Final
- Erny ran Luffy in & out of the fence to begin the final as Jimbo hooked
Beanie out. Richardson spun Little Bear whilst Boomer attacked Webby only to
find himself the filling of a Lada sandwich before Webby took a playful nibble
at Boomer. Having taken the points, Tritt added the Alan Barton Memorial to his
list of 2005 achievements with a brilliant win right from the back finishing
nearly a whole lap ahead of his nearest challenger, that being Rusty with Donut
& Bricknell next, these four so far ahead of the rest that no other placings
were announced.
Result:
575 Paul Tritton, 112 Shaun Russell, 167 Carl Boswell, 2 Jon Bricknell
Demolition
Derby - Seven emerged for a short DD, Compo tangling with Richardson but
copped a blast from Tom Harris (out in Donut’s Metro). Chips (Fiesta) pounded
Richardson with Webby quickly attacking the former at which point the race was
stopped to check on a winded Welshman. Just Harris & Webby left running for
the restart, each setting off in opposite directions from the Standlake bend to
meet in a solid head-on on the opposite turn, both backing off before engaging
in another nose to nose encounter from which just Webby survived, rounding off
another thoroughly entertaining afternoon.
Result:
283 Bryan Webb
