Standlake 5th October 2003 2 litre Bangers   Report by David 'Wiggy' Bishop

So the 18th meeting of the season has arrived and as those race days just seem to fly by we find ourselves onto the 6th Under 2 Litre meeting of the year. The day drew a respectable 42 cars which considering the clash with the Hednesford Pre 68 was better than some had expected. Amongst the locals were a sprinkling of visitors including Ex World champion 153 Richard martin. On the car front the Granada and the Bluebird were as ever the most popular tool with 8 and 12 examples respectively. The rest of the field being made up of  3 Cortinas, 3 Voles and the usual bilge. This just leaving 3 more notable cars the first two being the Mercs of 576 Simon Hadland and 31 Mark Gregory, leaving star car of the day being the Triumph 2000 Estate of local man 273 Stuart Emery.

I must apologise if I have missed out any important details but reporting is not so easy when your trying to flip burgers at the same time. This is also my first attempt at at a Banger report so here goes:

Heat 1 (25 cars) - on the grid for what was to be a very quiet opener save for Michael Bunyan (MK2) blasting 32 Early doors then attacking 622 Evans (Lancia). 177 Whitehead (MK2) tried to hook out 7 Kier Spiers similar mount leaving brother 481 Bernie Spiers to take the win ahead of 575 & 153.

Result:481 Bernie Spiers, 575 Paul Tritton, 153 Richard Martin, 96 Rob Adams, 378 Aiden Parker, 177 Matt Whitehead

Heat 2 (19 cars) - with 622 and 110 (Vole 345) pulling onto the centre from the word go. Winnie tangles with 32 Podge (Mazda 323) as 32 recovers to T bone the 54 Vole ending the 323's race. 248 Dave Stopp (Rover) engages in a battle with the MPG cars on the back straight as 153 takes his first win of the day from Tritton & Rusty.

Result:153 Richard Martin, 575 Tritton, 112 Shaun Russell, 106 Paul Gumm, 712 Judy Walman, 301 Darren Goves

Heat 3 (25 cars) - began with 727 Smith fencing Emery's Trummy hard as 153 hooked out 576 Hadlands Merc. 25 Adam Brett went in on 575 Tritton as 153 hooked out the luckless 102 Mr Fudge. 96 removed the bluebird of 418 Pete Kerry only to be spun himself by 25 Brett. 177 Matt Whitehead tried to dispatch 530 Ass (Tina Est) only to be flicked aside by 91 Beauchamp. Adam Brett went on to blast Smith as Fudge felt the force of  Slap. Smith recovered to take out Ifor Evans as Slap removed 96 to take the win. 727 taking ass into the dead 575 motor after the flag as Mong removes the Mk2 of 177 Whitehead. Rusty took 2nd with Goves close behind.

Result:426 Paul Horwood, 112 Rusty,  301 Govesy, 54 Alan Cartwright, 378 Parker, 481 Spiers

Heat 4 (20 cars) - 600 Jason Emery (Sierra) started things off by removing 712 Judy Walman (Saab) as 410 Tyler spun 19 Dave Spiers who was in turn met on the nose by 580 Dippy Dave. Judy tried to remove Winnie but is taken round by 378 Parker. Parker then went on to dispatch 32 Podge who had already removed 110 Yoyo Man, as Podge recovers to take out Judy.426 takes back to back wins with Winnie and Rusty the place men.

Result:426 Horwood, 54 Winnie, 112 Rusty, 410 Matthew Tyler, 378 Parker, 213 Nick Andrews

Heat 5 (36 cars) - all cars out on track. 691 Mr Shifter fenced himself from the off taking a heavy jacking from 105 Chris Snell (Tina) for his troubles. Slap took 91 into the fence as 418 and Baby bunny tangle on the back straight. A Jacking train then formed as 318 was attacked Ass who in turn felt the force of 96 Beauchamp. Mong took revenge for the shot on Ass as he jacked Beauchamp Bunny took 91 into the fence getting both passenger side wheels of the 244 car airborne as 600 fenced 378 leaving only 9 cars to finish the race. 106 Paul Gumm took his first win of the day from Winnie & Martin.

Result:106 Paul Gumm, 54 Winnie, 153 Martin, 575 Tritton, 301 Goves, 112 Rusty

Final (26 cars) - several spinners off the start Kier Spiers tried to spin Gumm but put himself in instead. 25 Brett removed Fudge leaving him open to a T-bone from 316 Sykes (Bluebird). Bunny fenced 177 as 54 removed the luckless Sykes who is jacked hard by a recovered Bunny. This developed into one of the heaviest and most entertaining jacking trains of the season. Mr Ass was first in, going in flat out and leaving Bunny's rear end well mullered. Before the dust had settled 378 Parker picked up 426 Slap and both careered into Mr Ass wasting the Tina Estate in style. 378 backed off with ease as 19 Dave Spiers removes brother 481. 153 took his second win of the day ahead of Tritton and Goves.

Result:153 Martin, 575 Tritton, 301 Goves, 112 Rusty, 491 Neil Sparkes, 54 Winnie

Demolition Derby (14 cars) - with the 301 car now being driven by Michael Bunyan. 19 Dave Spiers spun Dippy Dave who was in turn jacked by Bunny as 31 Mark Gregory removed 105 Snell. As 32 Podge rolled to bring out the reds (thanks here must go to 31 Gregory who coved the rolled car until Podge could be retrieved). On the restart 85 removes Hadland as 31 spins aside Snell once again. Snell soon recovers to blast 7 Kier Spiers only to meet 31 on the nose. Hadland jacks the stranded 96 car and then meets 301 in a gentle head-on. 19 T-bones Hadland and pays for it with a shot from 418. Hadland recovers to give 418 a shot in the side and gets his front wheel imbedded in the 418 footwell. Bunny comes round to attack the joined cars of Hadland and Pete Kerry and dies, Hadland & Kerry were still running but still stuck so no real winner and a tenner each for the 3 of them. So ending a reasonable meeting which started slowly but certainly got better with the Final being the race of the day.
