40
drivers for this one with 110 Yo-Yo Man eager for points bringing a second
motor. There was a mixed bag on offer, varying from 105 Chris Gumm and 578
Bert’s modern Daihatsu Applause and Mitsubishi Lancer respectively to one
apiece for Ford’s once dominant Capri, mk3, 4 and 5 Cortina. 167 Donut turned
the clock back with a harvest gold (of course!) Maxi, 799 Jez Dodge returned a
16/60 but show stealers were the Howell brothers with a pair of superb Austins,
851 Bode an A55 bubble and 852 Jay an A30, the latter arguably driver of the
day, the noddy car well up with the pace and Jay probably having as much fun as
anyone.
Heat
1 - Split openers saw 25 out for the first, 54 Winnie (Primera) clearly out
to prove a point as he was in full-contact mode all day, his first victim to
feel the force and then the fence being 74 Scooby’s LHD Golf though 167
Westy’s Rover 416 cushioned the impact somewhat. Gumm wall 573 Beanie’s mk5
Escort, 472 Martin Cooke doing likewise to 126 Casey’s Sunny. Like Winnie,
Yo-Yo Man (Astra) was also showing aggression, heaving aside 576 Simon Hadland (Astra)
and 815 Ian Castle whilst Donut nibbled briefly on the leading 85 Tricky’s
Primera boot lid before we had a 167 on 167 encounter, the Rover on the
receiving end of it’s one time predecessor. 252 Wild Willy (Cav) took a pop
shot at Winnie who merely hit the brakes, the Bucks parasite duly removed by
Bert, Winnie then coming under fire from Casey, the Standlake top dog waving his
man past before easily spinning him out. Yo-Yo Man’s charge came to an end
when 575 Tritt (Colt) pinned him to the wall as Tricky went pole to pole ahead
of 104 Scrapper (Primera) and 606 Boomer.
Result:
85 Aaron Rowland, 104 Lee Gumm, 606 Liam Weedon, 105 Chris Gumm, 578 Bryan
Tritton, 575 Paul Tritton
Heat
2 - As with the previous, 25 emerged for the second, Yo-Yo Man surviving an
early trip to the armco and went on to run 236 Bill Smith’s mk5 in whilst 77
Bass removed 806 Chunky’s smart Primera and Wild Willy in one heave. 414 James
Ellerker (late Sunny) hooked Bode out but befell the same fate at the hands of
103 Keith Heron, Bode recovering only to over-cook the bend whereupon he was
clouted by 360 Bonkers’ smart Rover 416. Winnie removed 580 Dippy Dave’s
Volvo 340 as Scrapper clipped Ellerker and was biffed by Bass as 112 Rusty
(Sirocco), another one in a no messing mood celebrated his win by removing Dippy
Dave ahead of the Primera pairing of Winnie and Chunky.
Result:
112 Shaun Russell, 54 Alan Cartwright, 806 Marc Doughty, 110 Derek Tyler, 575
Paul Tritton, 77 Steve Beasley
Heat
3 - 33 for an all-in third heat, Donut burying his collapsed Maxi deep
inside the A60 boot, ending the latter’s day whilst the Maxi backed off and
delivered a hefty t-bone to 341 Dan Wilder in the mk4. Rusty blasted Cooke which
shifted two infield tyres onto turn one, Heron finding one sending him fence
bound. Scrapper blitzed the Maxi as Rusty put Wild Willy and Cooke away en route
to back-to-back wins, crossing the line just in time as a recovered Willy joined
forces with 716 Jamie to assault him, Bert and Winnie his placemen.
Result:
112 Rusty, 578 Bert, 54 Winnie, 606 Boomer, 575 Paul Tritton, 576 Simon Hadland
Heat
4 - 28 for the last heat, 790 Ryan Rowland (Cherry) thundering 241 Darren
Dodd’s Golf in which also signalled the end of his own race whilst Tritt
easily spun 471 Chris smith’s mk3, Heron catching the Tina on the nose. After
a couple of enjoyable races Jay at last found someone to crash into, this being
Bonkers whilst bruv Bode latched on to Winnie before 6 Mark Holdsworth in the
Capri swept the A55 aside. Gumm ended Bass’ race with a follow in, 820 Maggot
connecting with the former, Gumm then holding his man superbly as Chris Smith
nibbled at Chunky only to cop a biggie off bruv Bonkers. Casey came through to
take his first win of the day from Devils Tritt and Hadland.
Result:
126 Dave Case, 575 Paul Tritton, 576 Simon Hadland, 815 Ian Castle, 54 Winnie,
606 Boomer
Final
- 30 on the grid for the final, Beanie collecting Westy as Jamie went in, as did
Dippy Dave and Cooke, Chris Smith then blasting the latter. Dodd was the next
man in, collecting Cooke before Wilder steamed the Golf only to be stuffed
himself by Bode, leaving the Golf well short and Dippy Dave’s Volvo none too
clever either! Winnie meanwhile heaved Jay aside as Westy copped a biggie off
Wild Willy, though the latter was punted by Bonkers with Bode connecting with
the 252 Cavvy next time around. Bode’s A55 was then jacked down by a combined
185 Martin Yaxley/ Tricky combo as Wilder found first the vacant Dodd motor and
then Bode before being swept aside by Yaxley, clearing a now somewhat blocked
Standlake turn. Jamie then piled both Chunky and Bonkers in with Rusty throwing
a place away to steam Chunky’s Primera. 225 Charlie Little Bear (Mazda 323)
homed in on the Sirocco only to go down to a shot from Wild Willy. Meanwhile
Casey was leading but had Devils Tritt, Hadland and Boomer plus Yo-Yo Man and
815 Ian Castle all breathing down his neck but managed to hold on to complete a
fine heat and final double, Yo-Yo Man getting the better of Hadland filling the
next two places but a blanket would have covered the first five home.
Result:
126 Casey, 110 Yo Yo, 576 Simon Hadland, 815 Ian Castle, 606 Boomer, 74 Steve

Demolition
Derby - An encouraging 15 returned for the DD, Scrapper connecting with the
back end of Bode, putting his man in and then promptly blew up Scooby. Rowland
leathered Wilder but felt the force of the impressive Scrapper whilst Jamie
jacked the A55. Castle latched onto Yaxley, burying him into Bode whilst Bruv
Jay exchanged gentle head-ons with Westy’s amazing wreck of a Rover. Chunky
met Smith in a solid head-on as Castle found Yaxley only to do a steering arm.
Whilst these latter two slogged it out, Bode limped head-on into Castle and
amazingly outlasted the Bluebirds to merit the win.
Result:
851 Mark (Bode) Howell
