Standlake 26th
March – 2 litre Bangers
Report – Dictaphone by Billo / Typing by Keith
36 cars for the 2 litre Bangers
on Sunday, not a bad turnout considering quite a few Banger boys opted for the
1600cc Rookie Bangers, which also attracted 36 entries. As you would expect the
field was Bluebird dominated, top car went to Standlake material man 77 Bass
with a fresh Merc Limo following a couple of Hearse’ and a P6 already this
year.
Heat 1 (28 cars) – Incarace visitor Chris Cash gets the action going as he T bones 290 Armco Andy (Carlton Est) into yep the Armco as 82 Nathan Grant (Primera) follows 815 Ian Castle’s Carina hard into the fence ending the latter’s race. 580 Dippy Dave (Pug 306) takes out the Bluey of 70 Steven Hart to take up the running as 606 Boomer tangles with 472 Matthew Cooke, Boomer taking further shots from 716 Jamie & 124 Orris. 711 Mitchell MacNaughton (Sunny) gets put in by Cooke on the now greasy Witney bend. Orris gets in a shot on 575 Paul Tritton (Rover 216) as Dippy Dave’s seizing motor gets blown up big time by Boomer. 578 Bert (Maestro Van) gets in the final T bone on 888 Chris Croshaw’s Mk3 Granada as 417 Shelly’s rapid Bluey takes the flag from 133 Karly & 791 lil Tricky to end a lively first race.
Result:
417 Sheldon Gardiner, 133 Karly Day, 791 Aaron Rowland, 130 Matt Sole, 578 Bryan
Tritton, 126 Dave Case
Heat 2 (25 cars) – 77
Bass steams the Limo up the back of 3 Rich Pilling and a lap later follows him
into the front of 790 Ryan Rowland’s spun Mazda 929, Pilling getting a further
pounding with a steam from 2 Jon Bricknell (Cavalier).
184 Carl Boswell (Mk2 Golf) & 70 Hart jointly take out 207 Compo as
143 Chicken Man gives the Golf a shot to the rear. 133 Karly takes a big shot at
417 Shelly as 130 Sole gives the Merc Limo a big T bone. 888 takes Hart onto the
infield as 126 Casey picks up Sole and follows him in hard resulting in an
impressively snapped Primera. 08 Haydn Carter collides with the stricken Golf
and takes a shot from 104 Lee Gumm (Honda Aerodeck) as 576 Hadland gives 2 JB a
lossy infield shot at the end of another action packed heat.
Result:
105 Chris Gumm, 606 Liam Weedon, 252 Will Bignell, 6 Mark Holdsworth, 133 Karly
Day, 417 Sheldon Gardiner.
Final (24 cars) – An
Incarace style draw gets the Final underway as 143 Chicken Man tosses 472 Cooke
aside. 716 Jamie picks up and runs 575 Tritton in as 791 Tricky crashes into
Casey and Chris Cash gives 82 Grant a shot. 71 Ciran Carton (Stella) gets put in
by an unseen car for a snap & jack. Day steams Cash as 252 Will Bignell
finds the fence and 417 Shelly starts to build a commanding lead. Croshaw’s
Mk3 Granada latches onto the back of Bert’s van and rides him round the fence,
Bert easily escapes but Croshaw gets a big shot from Bass’ Limo. 417 Shelly
completes a double and celebrates with a victory spin as he takes the flag ahead
of Boomer & Karly.
Result:
417 Sheldon Gardiner, 606 Liam Weedon, 133 Karly Day, 207 Michael Woodward, 105
Chris Gumm, 248 Dave Stopp.
Allcomers – From the
off 791 Tricky picks up 248 Foxy (Cavalier), 133 Karly tosses 105 Chris Gumm
aside to take up the lead as Shelly removes the Mk3 Granada. A cracking battle
for the lead develops as 106 Lee Gumm (Sunny) fresh from winning the Rookie
Final takes over from Karly. 2 JB
then removes & fences the Mk3, JB
and Bass both blast the Mazda 929 putting the back end of the estate down
reducing it to Cortina size. Lee Gumm takes the flag from Musketeers pair Karly
& Compo.
Result:
106 Lee Gumm, 133 Karly Day, 207 Michael Woodward, 143 Martin Wilkes, 417
Sheldon Gardiner, 105 Chris Gumm.
Demolition Derby – A
high mortality rate resulted in just 7 cars returning for the DD, the Mk 3 pins
Bass’ Limo against the Armco only to receive a shot from 82 Grant. 126 Casey
spins out Karly then gets a shot from JB, the recovered Karly now gets revenge
to take care of Casey. The two Musketeers 133 & 207 turn their attention to
Grant with Karly giving the Primera a shot on the nose, JB next to go leaving
just Karly and Compo. No switching off as the team mates battle it out with a
series of hits, Compo expires leaving Karly to pocket the cash for a deserved
win.
Result:
133 Karly Day
A lively session from the 2
litre Bangers with Standlake’s usual good mix of racing & crashing. The 36
Rookie Bangers also provided plenty of action in their 5 races.
