A
bumper crowd enforced usage of the overflow car park & were not disappointed
as 66 bangers no less amassed for the annual Whit bank holiday caravan carve up,
though to put things in prospective many were solely for the final event. Car
wise it was three for Cortina, two for Capri, used Stellar for 920 Jamie Horn,
four Granadas including 77 Bass’ Mk2 Limo & seven Volvos. The Howell
brothers turned out matching Maxis, 810 Mark Orr had an Ital & 87 Tapz a
well smart Magnum but 606 Boomer it was who top mounted with a smart Triumph
though this was saved for the caravan derby.
Heat
1 - Split opening heats saw 23 for the first, 85 Little Tricky the first to
show picking up & following 252 Will Bignell’s smart Sunny in, 177 Matt
Whitehead also finding the fence courtesy of 611 Gavin Harris. 74 Scooby’s
Pujo 405 was jacked down impressively by the traffic while Harris succumbed to a
jacking from 225 Charlie Barrett’s smart Vole estate though Bass arrived with
a shot to the latter. 70 Steven Hart (Volvo) nipped inside 536 Kev Hardie on lap
3 & held on for the win tossing 622 Ifor’s Capri aside en route, Hardie
keeping in touch to maintain 2nd ahead of 815 Ian Castle in 3rd.
Result:
70 Steven Hart, 536 Kevin Hardie, 815 Ian Castle, 110 Derek Tyler, 600 Jason
Emery, 606 Liam Weedon
Heat
2 - Up to 26 for the second, 600 Jase (smart Mondeo) homing in on 69 Head
Case’s Passat estate & running it in full chat, snapping & totalling
the VW leaving Caney later begging for a car to hitch up to his caravan. 84
Greeno (Cav) buried 78 Shaggy’s smart Donald though the latter survived only
to be wound out by Boomer’s Bluebird estate. 716 Jamie jacked a slow moving
Horn, 547 Iain Beattie (Cavalier) in turn steaming the former, Horn then feeling
the force of 110 Yoyo Man & 84 Little Stonk’s Saab. Bass leaned 907 Clive
Bowker’s Subaru in but collected a puncture as Boomer took the win ahead of
Yoyo Man who had 2 Jon Bricknell’s Volvo estate snapping at his heels in 3rd.
Result:
606 Liam Weedon, 110 Derek Tyler, 2 Jon Bricknell, 815 Ian Castle, 547 Iain
Beattie, 78 Shaun O’Donnell
Heat
3 - Split heats again with 23 for the third, Barrett following the Magnum in
hard though 728 Psycho Sam (Mk2) jacked the former before Tricky did likewise to
728, as Whitehead removed Barrett’s Vole. Ifor chose the outside line &
collected the 85/225 combo while 272 Steven Frankaum’s Cavalier was jacked
down unseen. Jase took 8 Stan Yaxley’s Mk5 to the wall, Bignell removed 515
Timmy Aldridge with Bricknell’s help before Whitehead removed Bignell’s
Sunny. 185 Martin Yaxley leaned Frankaum in while Stan came under fire from
Bricknell, 412 Stuart Young on his debut (Pujo 205) also landing on Stan though
the baby Pujo was then wasted by Aldridge. Bass arrived to steam Aldridge,
Tricky in turn blasting the limo before the leading Hart completed the train
with a shot on Tricky. This allowed Yoyo Man to take up the running as Stan’s
Cortina took yet further punishment, this time from Psycho Sam. Frankaum was
gamely chugging round whereupon the impressive Tricky gave him a further
pounding before he then jacked Beattie as Yoyo Man completed the win, Hart clung
on for 2nd ahead of Bricknell who once again had to settle for 3rd.
Result:
110 Derek Tyler, 70 Steven Hart, 2 Jon Bricknell, 547 Iain Beattie, 77 Steve
Beasley, 411 Padraig Fitzgerald
Heat
4 - The notion of splitting these two races backfired when only a dozen made
it out, one of those though was the “well up for it” Tricky who began by
leaning Bignell in on turn three, the latter finding the wall at the other end
when he went for a revenge shot which was never quite on. 716 Jamie wound 706
the Goat’s mk3 Granada out before jacking a slow 341 Dan Wilder Mk2 Cav.
Bricknell thundered up Jamie however as Castle nipped past Boomer for the win,
Yoyo Man continuing his fine form with 3rd.
Result:
815 Ian Castle, 606 Liam Weedon, 110 Derek Tyler, 85 Aaron Rowland, 411 Padraig
Fitzgerald, 706 Doug Jones
Heat
5 - The all in last heat was much better with 29 combatants. Martin Yaxley
with Bass in tow heaved both Scooby & Frankaum out, Ifor unable to avoid
collecting the latter on the nose. Boomer latched onto Bricknell who in turn
picked up “face from the past” 997 Trevor Hawkins who was going nowhere but
into Scooby’s Pujo! Tricky dished Hart a solid t-bone with Barrett steaming
Tricky while Boomer removed Ifor, Yoyo Man doing likewise to 151 Chris Baker.
Young who was bravely out again in his diminutive & somewhat shortened at
that Pujo 205 climbed all over Stonk but this took him into the path of the
biggest car on the track & credit to Bass who eased off as much as he could.
411 Paudi’s Cav removed Aldridge while Young was keen for more as he attacked
Jamie at which point the reds came out to check on Hart who was fortunately no
more than winded. Castle’s healthy lead was cut when they lined up for the
restart, Martin Yaxley removing the Goat only to come under fire from Baker
& 84 Greeno (Cavalier), Yaxley though quickly flicked Greeno aside only to
be removed in turn by Aldridge. Bass collected a flat & then the empty
Scooby motor, Barrett leaned the Goat in as Aldridge went missing. 457 Aaron
Hawes spun both Bass & Stonk while Castle removed Yaxley en route to back to
back wins, Yoyo Man & Boomer reversing their podium places in the previous
race.
Result:
815 Ian Castle, 110 Derek Tyler, 606 Liam Weedon, 515 Timmy Aldridge, 77 Steve
Beasley, 84 John Green
Final
- 24 returned for the final but Bode (in 114 Darrell Tipper’s Capri) rolled
before reaching the start line reducing the grid by one for the restart. Boomer
thundered Martin Yaxley in form the off, Bricknell spun Greeno while Ifor
blasted Psycho Sam. Aldridge lead off pole & survived a greasy patch exiting
turn four though Bass who was in his slipstream in 2nd was not so
lucky & went round. However he bounced back & survived an assault from
Bricknell while Greeno attacked Psycho Sam. Barrett was lively in this one &
all at the expense of the Goat who survived two steams before finally being put
down by a third, Castle lost ground & stalled after coming under fire from
Bricknell while Shaggy latched onto Bass & reversed the limo in. Aldridge
motored to his second final win, Yoyo Man completing a good day with another 2nd
ahead of a new name in the places, 253 Bungee (Volvo) who up till now had had a
torrid time.
Result:
515 Timmy Aldridge, 110 Derek Tyler, 253 Ben Hunt, 815 Ian Castle, 84 John Green
Demolition
Derby -The DD raised nine cars, Tricky by far the busiest instantly picking
Orr up, following him in snapping the Ital & standing it on it’s nose
while Bricknell tried disposing of the limo, these two then meeting head-on
before Tricky gave the limo a blast. Castle sorted the brave 873 AX Citroen
& Frankaum, the latter recovering to attack 290 Armco Andy before Bricknell
steamed Frankaum only to do his steering. Tricky now attacked the AX, continuing
into Bricknell before engaging Armco Andy in a stiff head on which killed both
motors. 873 gamely went on the offensive against Bricknell before being lined up
by Frankaum, the latter’s gallant efforts finally extinguished by Castle who
with victory in sight now got busy on 873, but credit to the man 873 gave as
good as he got before finally going down, leaving Castle the winner who ended
things is style with a monster head-on to Bricknell’s steering less Volvo.
Result:
815 Ian Castle
Caravan
Demolition Derby - The
packed crowd were then witnessed the sight of 21 caravans no less & that
doesn’t include Bode who conked out in the pits or the one still at the track
entrance advertising the day’s side show. 42 Messer (smart Volvo) had driven
at 20mph from Slough to keep his van from falling apart lost his body before the
first hit while 785 Jambo (Mk2) flipped his on it’s side! 510 Stuart Taylor
ripped his wagon through 580 Dippy Dave (Cavalier), Messer spoilt for choice
plumped to drive through the side of Taylor. 152 Chris Sargent (smart Cav) drove
through ex Gloucester Gladiator 424 Craig Parkin (Volvo 740 estate) & Head
Case while Bowker hitched a ride inside Boomer who in turn garaged the Trummy
inside Head Case, the latter similarly parked within Parkin’s rig. Yoyo Man
(Mk5) was the last one running with a complete shell, 98 Baldrick missing his
shot to change this though he did nail his man next time round. Jambo attacked
Baldrick with 830 Windy (Sapphire) in turn finding Jambo before the trailer less
Taylor detached Jambo’s leaving Jambo to settle it car wise with Bowker
head-on style fashion which was enough to stop the Subaru. Messer delivered a
big t-bone to Dippy Dave’s Cav as 622 Ifor in a diesel Mondeo estate (surely a
racing first) wriggled free from various carcasses that had so far contained him
& too landed on Dippy Dave. Ifor then packed up, Dippy Dave popped a drive
shaft to leave Messer the winner who delivered one final blow on Dippy Dave
before collecting empty rigs.
